Panthers V Bulldogs A must win clash

  • Panthers V Bulldogs A must win clash

Jamie Soward has labelled this Saturdays match against the Bulldogs a must win, for both sides. While it is unclear whether he will play, the comments come as the Panthers and Bulldogs find themselves a long way from the sides who faced off in last years grand-final qualifier.

Soward has been named by the Panthers while none of the Origin stars have been named by the Bulldogs. It is unclear how the respective teams will line up at this stage, Mansour may even be a chance for the Panthers. There will be changes.

Both sides are desperate and that makes them dangerous. But the desperation can do horrible things to teams, both teams will be struggling with cohesion and mentality as players come in and out of the side while the reality of their precarious position weighs heavily on the players minds.

It will be the team with the most composure and ability to cope under pressure that will get the chocolates. Soward will provide that for the Panthers if he plays. They are due for a good start and if they get one they have been a solid defensive unit in second halves of late. They have conceded just 18 points in second halfs over their last four starts, proof that they are struggling playing for 80 minutes more than anything.

For the Bulldogs it is completions and consistency that they crave. When they play their best football they are deadly but their errors and penalties last week invited the Titans in.

On form it is the Bulldogs that probably will win. But the Panthers have been good for a surprise or two over the past season and a half. Ivan Cleary will not doubt have his team in the right frame of mind and believing if they can get that dream start and that confidence early that with Soward in the side they can win. If Soward plays the Panthers will win. If not it will be the Dogs day.
