David Simmons plays his 200th and final NRL match this weekend against the Newcastle Knights at Pepper Stadium. He truly has been the saviour of the Panthers on several occasions over his tenure at the club.
200 matches is a huge accomplishment for any player and there's no exception for David Simmons.
There have been countless times over the last few seasons when Penrith have been on the ropes. An injury ravaged backline has often been the catalyst for a first grade recall for Simmons and when he gets the nod to step up he often makes an extended stay.
He joined an elite club in rugby league history when he scored 4 tries in a single match against the Wests Tigers in Round 16 this season, bringing up his 100th try in the process - another huge milestone!
He's become a fan favourite of the Penrith faithful. His reliability and neat, if not clinical, finishing has probably saved a lot of heart attacks at the foot of the mountains.
Penrith prayed; and it's prayers were answered. Now their Messiah must move on to the next chapter in his life, but we'll always remember the contribution he made to the club in this exciting period of rebuilding.
